Big brands. Small prices.

Tell me what you don't like yourself.

"Tell me what you don't like yourself."

They don't like some parts of themselves, they don't feel good about themselves.

That might works, but not for me.

----------- Alan Sokal

The apprentice s4ep11 review

Last week Clay was swithed to Excel. The candidates were challenged to pick an artist, then write and record an original song to air live on XM satellite radio. Excel lost again because their song didn't fit the format of XM Cafe and wasn't supported by the audience. And Clay was very hard to work with,so he was fired.

Now five candidates are left. Bill is filling in George this week. The teams receive adhesive plastic film printed with advertising messages for 'Shania by Stetson', Shania Twain's new Coty fragrance. Their job is to use the film to create a one-day promotion on the streets of New York. The promotion that got the most consumers to call an 800 number to request a free sample of 'Shania by Stetson' wins. Each team will be given 1000 square feet of wrapping material, a rapped van with an ad on it, and 10000 dollars for expenses.

Excel: Rebecca  Randal(PM)
Capital Edge: Felisha Alla(PM) Adam
Result: Excel wins.

At Excel, Randal and Rebecca hired 30 temp workers to carry 'Shania by Stetson' billboards in Times Square and other key locations. At Capital Edge, Adam, Felisha and Alla decided to wrap horse-drawn carriages with their film and hire 15 temps to promote the product on foot.

The result is a near tie. Excel's promotion got 978 consumers to call for a fragrance sample, while Capital Edge netted 973 calls. When Mr. Trump asked why Capital Edge lost, Alla accused Adam of spending too much money on carriages instead of temporary personnel. Felisha also came under fire because the temps she hired were less effective than Excel's. In the end, Mr. Trump fired Adam for squandering money on carriages, which turned out to be an ineffective marketing tool. Adam's inexperience ultimately brought him down.

"Be A Gladiator"
There're times that the only choice is confrontation. Think of yourself as a gladiator, think of yourself as somebody that goes into the rain. Confrontation is never really popular, but you know what, sometimes it's needed. Do it, and do it with gusto.
-----------Donald Trump

The most dramatic thing in this episode is that when Randal accidentally discovered that Capital Edge had megaphones waiting to be picked up at a Radio Shack store, he and Rebecca raced there and snagged them first. It was a gusty move that gave Excel a formidable advantage. In the boardroom When Capital Edge claimed they lost because Excel hijacked their megaphones, Mr. Trump didn't want to hear it. He praised Excel's gutsy pilfering.

I think Rebecca did a great job. When she realized that some of her temps were native Spanish-speakers, she sent them to promote 'Shania by Stetson' in Spanish Harlem. And her quick thinking maxmized the resources.

There're times when some of the team members see the real problem, they know what's right, but they don't fight for it. Just like Markus found the 'Green with envy' thing, Felisha realized from the start that the horse-drawn carriage would be a useless promotional tool, but she buckled under to team pressure and agreed to rent them anyway (maybe because Alla was too tough). That was the main reason they lost.

In the boardroom, Adam tried to save himself from firing by citing his "sponge-like" ability to learn, he was only calling attention to his lack of real-world experience. And he was fired. He just can't win only on potential.

The apprentice s4ep10 review

It's a special episode of 'The Apprentice' which makes a summary of this interview by far. So I'll just put it down in my space.

Week 1.
The 18 candidates were divided into two teams, men vs. women, that is Excel vs. Capital Edge. The task was to creat a one day fitness class for a fitness company. Excel won in the end. And Donald Trump made a change in the boardroom, the winning team would decide if their PM deserve the exemption. As a result, Markus was not exempt. And Melissa was fired.

Week 2.
Randal was away. The task was to produce a 30-second commercial and print ad campaign for Lamborghini. Excel had absolutely no respect for Markus, so they didn't listen when he pointed out a problem with Mark's print campaign. In the end Capital Edge won. Marshawn got her exemption. And Chris was fired because he as the PM didn't bring Mark into the boardroom. By the way, the women got to play hockey with the NY Islanders, then Rebecca broke her ankle.

Week 3.
The task was to conduct electronic products for senior citizens. Jennifer W. was fired because she planned the event badly. And that is also the reason Capital Edge lost. Rebecca stood up for Toral and showed her loyalty.

Week 4.
The task was to creat an original character to represent Dairy Queen's popular brand of Blizzard icecream. Toral didn't step up to be the PM and she let her team down by refusing to wear the costume that they created. Excel won the task. And Toral was fired.

Week 5.
Randal was picked by the women to join them. The task was to design a parade float for the new Sony movie Zathura. The men's float won and they headed off to enjoy their reward--a recording session with Wyclef Jean. It was a big win for this week's men's project manager, Brian. But after another jarring loss this week, the women's morale plummeted. An intense power struggle erupted between Jennifer M., this week's project leader, and Kristi. Kristi lost the battle and was fired.

Week 6.
The episode began with heavy shuffling of team membership. With Mr. Trump and Mr. Ross away on business, Carolyn took Mr. Trump's seat in the boardroom and told Alla, Capital Edge's project manager, to send her three weakest people to Excel for the week. She picked Jennifer, Marshawn, and Rebecca. John, Excel's project manager, was asked to do the same. He shuttled Adam, Clay, and Markus to the other side. So the lineups were: Brian, James, Jennifer, Josh, Mark, Marshawn and Rebecca (Excel); and Adam, Alla, Clay, Felisha, Markus, and Randal (Capital Edge).
The teams went to different Dick's Sporting Goods stores. Their assignment was to pick a sport and create a specialized sales event for it. The team that generated the largest gain in daily sales revenue would triumph.

When the day was done, Capital Edge had beaten the store's average golf-department sales by 74 percent. In contrast, Excel had caused baseball-department sales to fall fallby an astonishing 34 percent. James, Jennifer, Josh, and Mark were all fired because they didn't sell in a sales task.

Week 7.
The teams developed and presented courses for The Learning Annex. Capital Edge, led by Adam, taught, "Sex in the Workplace." Excel, captained by Randal, chose "Stand Out!" After Excel won higher ratings from class participants, the team went to claim some hot clothes from fashion designer Michael Kors. Capital Edge returned to the boardroom where Markus got fired after an evasive attempt to downplay his role in his team's defeat.

Week 8.
The teams created interactive displays at Best Buy stores to promote the "Revenge of the Sith" DVD and the Star Wars video game, "Battlefront II." Best Buy and LucasArts executives picked Capital Edge's display as the winner. When Excel returned to the boardroom, Mr. Trump zeroed in on Brian's disastrous leadership and Marshawn's last-minute refusal to present for her team. Then he fired them both.

Week 9.
Clay, still angry at his Capital Edge teammates from last week, moved over to Excel. This week's task was to write and produce a new song to be aired on XM Café, an XM Satellite Radio station. The best song, as judged by XM Satellite Radio executives, would win. Capital Edge was a clear winner. And Clay was fired because all his teammates said they couldn't work with him again.

Now it's down to five candidates: Randal, Felisha, Alla, Rebecca.

Before Sunset

It's a movie, I haven't seen it until today. A good movie always can tell a good story. An American guy and a French woman talking from the beginning to the end doesn't make the movie boring at all. Actually, it's very beautiful and romantic. I love the way they're talking, which is free, fun, lovely.

It's also like a little charming tour in Paris, the bookstore, the roads and buildings, the French cafe, the park, the river, and the view along the river, the place where Celine lives, all of these are so beautiful and they are showed to us in a very smooth way.

But from the moment they met at the bookstore, they only have each other, regardless of the beautiful Paris and the warm sweet climate. He wrote a book and she wrote a song just for the memory. Well, there's a connection between them. However, the most amazing things that attract me are not just their love story but also the way they're hanging out or just say talking, so natural and easy and happy. They've got times when they don't see eye to eye, but it's ok. This is how they creat sparkles in their conversations. And they really make think during and after watching the movie.

I just don't wanna imagine whether they are together or not at the end. The movie ends at the perfect time, at the perfect moment.

The apprentice s4ep09 review

Last week the candidates were challenged to creat a sales display for the DVD release of the latest Star Wars episode:revenge of the Sith. At Capital Edge, PM Clay quickly showed his dark side leaving all the work to Alla. At Excel, PM Brian got off to a slow start and missed the meeting with Bestbuy and Lucasfilm executives. When the display was finished, Marshawn abandoned her team and back out of the presentation, Rebecca stepped up in Marshawn's place. At the end Excel did lose.

Marshawn was the one who dropped the ball for the presentation at the last minute and abandoned her teammates. Brian was a terrible leader who never stepped up. The two candidates were both fired.

It's week 9 now, only six candidates left. There're no exemption from now on. Clay joins in Excel. For the new task the candidates will audition some unsigned singers and then choose the artist  that they feel has the most talent, then they will write an original song and supervise all creative aspects of producing a record. Their song will play live on air for millions of listeners on 'XM Cafe'. The candidates will have access to professional musicians and producers. The team whose song best fits the format of 'XM Cafe' as judged by the XM Satellite Radio executives wins.

Excel: Rebecca(PM) Randal Clay
Capital Edge: Felisha(PM) Alla Adam
Result: Capital Edge is a clear winner.

Clay is fired because all his teammates said they couldn't work with him again. However, Randal and Rebecca made big mistakes too, Randal put wrong numbers of the radio channel on the poster, Rebecca as the PM didn't made right decision.

"Creative Balance"
It's the great business person that can decide between practicality and creativity. You have to be able to strike a balance. If you don't strike a balance, it's not gonna work.
-----------Donald Trump

This task is difficult in my opinion because it requires both creative talent and business brain, and it's also a big challenge. All of the elements including the singer, the original song, the XM Cafe radio, the audience should be connected.

Excel takes a risk to creat a song which is not the XM Cafe style, actually they lose the audience because of that. On the other hand, Capital Edge's song perfectly fits the XM Cafe format, they win the audience and the task.

The presentation is still very important. Basic rules:no choking, no mispronouncing, no stupid mistakes.

However, I think Felisha's performance is great in this task, she made right decisions and control the process very well. Also I like Randal's sense of responsibility. It's down to five candidates, who's gonna be fired next week?

The apprentice s4ep08 review

Last week Excel picked a member of Capital Edge to even out the teams. Randal was picked. The candidates had to design a teaching class for the Learning Annex. Excel's PM Randal picked a practical topic 'standing out' ,well,Capital Edge's class was far from education which was about 'sex at work'. Capital Edge's presentation was a total disaster, so they did lose on the task.

Finally Markus was fired because he was always talking and talking and talking, but no one got anything from him. He's got a problem with not getting the point. He also always had too many excuses.

Now it's week 8. The task is to creat an instore interactive retail display to feature the DVD of Star Wars episodeIII revenge of the Sith, as well as the video game. The candidates construct the display in a Bestbuy store where DVDs can be purchased, they also have access of Lucasfilm's graphic designers, photographers and structural engineers. And the one that does the best display as judged by executives from Bestbuy and Lucasfilm wins.

Excel: Brian(PM) Randal Rebecca Marshawn
Capital Edge: Clay(PM) Alla Adam Felisha
Result:Capital Edge wins, it's a total win. And Clay is not exempt.

At the boardroom, when I'm still wondering whether Brian or Marshawn will be fired, Trump makes his decision immediately, the two are both fired. Marshawn is the one who dropped the ball for the presentation at the last minute and abandoned her teammates. Brian is a terrible leader who never stepped up.

"Loyalty"
A disloyal person can totally destroy a corporation. If you find a disloyal person, get rid of him/her immediately. They're no good, they'll never be good, it's nothing worse than disloyalty.
----------Donald Trump

This task is not difficult actually. All the needed sources are right on hand, I mean, they have access of Lucasfilm's graphic designers, photographers and structural engineers, they have the products. How easy is that?

It doesn't matter how much you've known about the movie, since you can set a meeting with the executives from LucasFilm and Bestbuy, they will give the most important information to you, and answer all the questions. Based on the information, the concept can be set.

No matter what kind of products to sell, the basic standards of a good display are obvious. It should be attractive, showing the best part of the product, and the products should be easy to see and reach. Excel's display is boring, average, and has a problem that DVDs are not put in front of customers. On the other hand, Capital Edge constructs a great display which is more fun and has a big words saying own the DVD and video game both.

The presentation is also important, it should be brief and excellent.

However, I like the way Rebecca stepped up when Marshawn dropped the ball for presentation. And I don't see Clay last long 'cause he's so childish and lack of leadership.
Whatever~
